Types of Generative AI

​There are several types of generative AI, including:

​

  1. Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs): GANs consist of two neural networks, a generator and a discriminator, competing against each other to produce new, synthesized data that resembles a training dataset.

    • Example: Pix2Pix, which is used for image-to-image translation tasks. For example, it can be trained to convert sketches into photographs.

    • Example: CycleGAN, which can be used to perform style transfer between two different domains, such as converting a picture of a zebra into a picture of a horse.

  2. Variational Autoencoders (VAEs): VAEs are a type of generative model that uses an encoder-decoder architecture to learn a compact representation of the data and then generate new samples.

    • Example: A simple example of a VAE is a model that generates images of handwritten digits, such as the MNIST dataset.

  3. Autoregressive Models: Autoregressive models generate data by conditioning the generation of each element in a sequence on the previous elements in the sequence.

    • Example: GPT-3, OpenAI's language model, is an example of an autoregressive model. It can be used for a wide range of natural language processing tasks, such as text generation, question answering, and summarization.

  4. Flow-based Generative Models: These models use normalizing flows to transform a simple prior distribution into a target distribution, making it possible to generate samples that resemble the target distribution.

    • Example: RealNVP, a normalizing flow model that can be used for image synthesis and density estimation.

    • Example: Glow, a generative flow model for images.

  5. Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks (DCGANs): DCGANs are a type of GANs that are specifically designed to generate images. They use convolutional neural networks as generators and discriminators.

    • Example: ProGAN, a deep convolutional GAN for generating high-resolution images.

    • Example: StyleGAN, a GAN that can generate diverse images of faces with controllable style attributes.

Generative Tools

ChatGPT is a language model developed by OpenAI. It is based on the transformer architecture and has been trained on a massive corpus of text data to generate human-like responses to natural language input.

ChatGPT can be used for various tasks such as text generation, language translation, question-answering, and conversation-modeling. It can understand and respond to a wide range of questions and topics, making it a powerful tool for interactive AI applications.
